Early Life and Background

Robert Luzarraga was born in Palenque, Ecuador, on February 24, 1991. Like many professional footballers, his journey began long before he became a regular name in senior football.

His early development included involvement with football academies and youth structures such as Academia Alfaro Moreno, Barcelona SC, and Fedeguayas. These experiences gave him an important foundation and helped him develop the defensive qualities required for professional football.

Luzarraga eventually moved into senior competition through Ecuador’s Segunda Categoría. Playing at this level allowed him to gain valuable match experience and adapt to the physical and tactical demands of professional football.

His development was gradual rather than immediate. By progressing through different clubs and levels, he was able to build the experience that later became one of his biggest strengths as a defender.

His Age and Physical Features

Robert Luzarraga is 35 years old in 2026. His date of birth is February 24, 1991, and he was born in Palenque, Ecuador.

The defender stands approximately 1.88 metres tall, which is around 6 feet 2 inches. His height gives him a useful physical advantage when competing for aerial balls and defending against physically strong attackers.

Luzarraga is primarily a left-footed player. His main position is centre-back, although his versatility has allowed him to be considered for other defensive roles during different stages of his career.

For a central defender, physical strength is only one part of the job. Positioning, anticipation, communication, concentration, and experience are equally important, and his long professional career has helped him develop these areas.

Career and Major Achievements

Luzarraga’s professional career has included several Ecuadorian clubs and one spell abroad. He made his first major breakthrough with Independiente del Valle in 2012 before continuing his career with teams such as Deportivo Quevedo, Mushuc Runa, Gualaceo SC, and Deportivo Cuenca.

His most successful period came with Delfín. He joined the club in 2018 and became part of a squad that won the Ecuadorian Serie A title in 2019. He also gained experience in major South American competitions during this period.

In 2022, he moved to Bolivia to play for Royal Pari before returning to Ecuador and joining Técnico Universitario. After several seasons with Técnico Universitario, he moved to Daquilema FC in March 2026.

Career at Independiente del Valle

Independiente del Valle represented an important step in Luzarraga’s professional development. He reached Ecuador’s top level with the club in 2012, giving him an opportunity to compete against established teams and experienced players.

Breaking into first-division football is a major milestone for any young defender. For Luzarraga, this period provided an important platform from which he could continue developing his career.

After his time with Independiente del Valle, he continued moving between Ecuadorian clubs. These experiences exposed him to different coaches, teammates, tactical systems, and competitive environments.

Years With Deportivo Cuenca and Other Ecuadorian Clubs

Deportivo Cuenca was another important stop in Luzarraga’s career. His time with the club came after earlier spells with teams including Deportivo Quevedo, Mushuc Runa, and Gualaceo SC.

Playing for multiple clubs helped him become a more adaptable defender. Rather than building his career around a single team, he gained experience across different squads and footballing environments.

This part of his career also helped establish the consistency needed to remain involved in Ecuador’s professional game for many years.

Successful Period With Delfín

Delfín became one of the defining clubs in Robert Luzarraga’s football career. He joined the Ecuadorian side in 2018 and spent several seasons with the team.

The biggest moment arrived in 2019, when Delfín won the Ecuadorian Serie A championship. Being part of a title-winning squad is a significant achievement for any professional footballer, and the success remains one of the most memorable accomplishments of Luzarraga’s career.

His time at Delfín also gave him opportunities to compete in South American continental football. Copa Libertadores experience added another important dimension to his career and allowed him to face opponents outside Ecuador.

Experience With Royal Pari

In 2022, Luzarraga moved outside Ecuador for the first time when he joined Royal Pari in Bolivia’s División Profesional.

The move gave him an opportunity to experience a different football culture and compete in another national league. Although his spell in Bolivia was shorter than some of his Ecuadorian club periods, it added international experience to his professional résumé.

For an established defender, playing in another country can provide valuable tactical and personal experience. Luzarraga’s move to Bolivia showed that his career extended beyond Ecuador’s domestic competition.

Técnico Universitario Career

After his spell with Royal Pari, Luzarraga returned to Ecuador and joined Técnico Universitario in 2022.

Técnico Universitario, often known by the nickname “Rodillo Rojo,” became an important part of the later stage of his career. He continued to operate primarily as a centre-back and brought years of professional experience to the defensive unit.

His time with the club lasted several seasons. During that period, he remained part of Ecuador’s competitive professional football scene and continued to add to his career appearance record.

Move to Daquilema FC

In March 2026, Robert Luzarraga joined Daquilema FC, beginning a new chapter after his years with Técnico Universitario.

The move is significant because it shows that his professional career is continuing well into his mid-30s. For an experienced centre-back, years of playing at different clubs can provide valuable leadership and knowledge to a squad.

At Daquilema FC, his experience in Ecuadorian football and South American competition can be useful both on and off the pitch.

Relationship With Football

Football has been at the centre of Luzarraga’s professional life for many years. His career demonstrates a strong connection with Ecuadorian club football, where he has spent most of his senior career.

His relationship with the sport has also taken him beyond Ecuador through his time with Royal Pari in Bolivia and his participation in continental competitions.

Rather than being known primarily for celebrity status, he has built his reputation through his work as a professional defender and his long association with the game.
